I need samba because there are too much windows machines in my network, so if linux do not support sharing network with Windows is a broken system for me. I will not update from mint 17.3. Hope linux mint bring a good replacement for samba.
Audio torrent download linux mint mate
I just wanted to say that for all of those requesting that linuxmint.com should have https:// , that would do absolutely nothing to prevent all attacks and would be no guarantee that any information (such as hashes) that is put on the site is legit.
Ok I started downloading it via torrent, but now stopped it until things are correct.I am concerned about sites I maintain via wordpress hosting, however my servers are on 1and1 so I think 1and1 keeps them pretty safe and I have security plugins, but my wordpress have been hacked before also, but not since beefing up wordpress security, 1and1 is good in shutting down the site if it is under attack and alerting me.Do you have your own server or is it hosted, maybe you should go to hosting that has more security ? Idk, now I must check my wordpress sites.
For any good , I downloaded the direct file mint cinnamon 17.3 64bit edition .I have checked md5sum via terminal and it matches exactly with the value given above .Thanks to the developers for telling the problems to the user as soon as founding the threat.
I downloaded and and installed linuxmint-17-mate-64bit-v2 on a laptop Friday night around 10pm EST. Do I need to be concerned? If so, what is the valid signature for that ISO so I can compare? Thank you.
ty for the blog, i had no idea linuxmint was attacked. im glad also that you provide torrents thou i only use mate 17.2 and 17.3. prior to this attack i was not able to download any torrents on linuxmint.com for week or two. everyone should make the habit to check the md5 checksum. thats the way to go!!! viva mate!!!
I tried to read through everything, only saw one mention of the man-db under /var/libChecking for the man-cy, I do not have but I do have the man-db folder.New to linux here, found a distro that is pleasing, concerned about this hacked version.I had two events though that concerned me, on the 20th, navigate to Google.com and the site was blocking me, too many attempts or too many connections.Installed skype, was sending a file to my colleague and it indicated I was sending the file to two contacts, and further investigating this was showing to be the same contact waiting to receive, I figure this is a skype issue though.I have the ISO and install went fine, I am as I say new to linux and still have to learn how to do the MD5 check.Should I be concerned? ISO File date is from Feb 05-2016 so downloaded long before the 20th.REALLY liking this distro ? thank youHarlan
I am sorry to hear this happened to the beloved Linuxmint site and team Any idea on what your plan at linuxmint will be to prevent being hacked like this in the future or? I am a long mint user for about 8 years now and I love it especially cinnamon and kd. I was wondering though has this made any problems with any other ISO like KDE,MINT,XFCE and so on or? also How have things at mint been since the problem that is currently going on?

Another way to get a good image is to use the torrents. Check linuxtracker.org or tuxdistro.com for the Mint torrent files. Oh, and make sure they are torrents from before the hack in mid January, just in case the asshats try to seed a fake torrent. You can then use the above sha256 hashes (or the ones from the mirror Clem posted a link to) to verify the ISO image before installing it.
This tells us that the sha256sum.txt hash file was signed by Clem (linuxmint.com). The warning below that can be ignored (it just indicates your current GnuPG trust database does not have trust information for that signing key).
For this review I'm using both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions of Linux Mint 14 with the MATE desktop. The 64 bit version was installed inside a VirtualBox virtual machine on my desktop computer. The 32 bit version was installed on my MSI Wind U100 netbook. I started off by downloading the 64 bit Live DVD version of Linux Mint 14.1 over bittorrent. The torrent was running fast and my download completed in a little more than 30 minutes. This was most likely limited by my modest Internet connection.
After getting through the Welcome Screen issues I moved on the check out the rest of the release. Since it's been a few weeks since the latest ISO was released, I was not surprised to see a notification that there were 116 updates available. I clicked the icon and entered my password to begin the update process. After a few minutes of downloading updated package information I got a number of error messages warning me that the Medibuntu repositories could not be reached. As that is a repository outside of the Mint team's control, I can't blame them for the issue. I clicked through the error messages and then found that the mintupdate package had to get updated first. After that updated, I then found that there were 184 updates for me to install. At this point all of the updates installed smoothly.
After taking Linux Mint 14 for a test drive on VirtualBox, I decided to give it a try on my MSI Wind netbook. For that I downloaded the 32 bit edition. Again, the download was fairly quick over bittorrent. I decided that I didn't want to blow away my installation of Linux Mint 13, so I decided to resize the existing Linux partition to make room for a small testing partition. I tried to do this ahead of time from the Live environment, but for some reason GParted was indicating an error on the ext3 partition and was unable to resize it. I went ahead with the install and decided to try partitioning again. The partitioning tool inside the installer had no problem resizing the existing ext3 partition and creating a new ext4 partition for my new install. Resizing and creating the new partition took about 20 minutes.
Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird come installed for web browsing and email respectively while Transmission is included for downloading over bittorrent. The Libre Office suite is installed for your office document needs while Banshee is provided for managing and listening to your music collection.

Allavsoft is a great download manager for Mac and Windows. It can batch downloading music, videos, subtitles from 1000+ website. It also helps to download to any video or audio format.
And lastly, the third way transmission-cli can be downloaded is with a torrent file. Obtain a torrent file by conventional means (through a web browser) or find a link to a torrent file, and download it through the terminal with wget.
Why are our videos no longer available in mp4, or avi format? Modern browsers are compatible with the HTML5 web standard. The Internet Archive's player uses HTML5 to play the ogv video format, ogg theora, and it will switch to javascript if necessary, so we use their player. If your browser is not sufficiently modern to play the video, just install the cross-platform vlc player, download the ogv video and play it in the player. Use the torrent download (with torrent software of course) if you have bandwidth caps or a slow Internet connection.
To set the default program to open torrent files, open up your file manager, navigate to the directory that contains the downloaded torrent file. Right click the torrent file and select properties in the context menu.
You can watch Hulu, Prime Video and/or Netflix on Linux. You can also download videos from YouTube and watch them later, or if you are in a country where you cannot get Netflix and other streaming services, you may have to rely on torrent services like Popcorn Time in Linux. 2ff7e9595c
